A Letter to God Summary in English
Lencho and His Farm
Lencho was a poor farmer who lived with his family in a house on the top of a hill. His entire family depended on the crops grown in his fields for food and income.
That year, his crop looked very healthy and he was expecting a good harvest.
Rain Turns into Hailstorm
One day dark clouds appeared in the sky and it started raining. Lencho was very happy because rain was necessary for his crops.
However, after some time the rain turned into a hailstorm. Large hailstones fell from the sky for nearly an hour and destroyed all the crops in the fields.
Lencho’s Faith in God
After seeing the destruction, Lencho became sad because his family would have no food for the year. But he had complete faith in God.
He believed that God could see everything and would definitely help him.
Lencho Writes a Letter to God
Lencho wrote a letter to God asking for 100 pesos. He needed the money to feed his family and to sow crops again for the next season.
He wrote the address “To God” on the envelope and posted it at the post office.
The Postmaster Helps Lencho
The postmaster was surprised after reading the letter. He was deeply moved by Lencho’s faith in God.
He decided to help him. He collected money from his own salary and requested his friends and colleagues to contribute.
Finally, he was able to collect only 70 pesos and sent the money to Lencho in an envelope signed simply as “God”.
Lencho’s Second Letter
Lencho counted the money and became angry because he had asked for 100 pesos but received only 70 pesos.
Since he believed God could never make a mistake, he thought that the post office employees had stolen the remaining money.
He wrote another letter to God asking for the remaining 30 pesos and requested God not to send money through the post office again because the employees were dishonest.
