Active and Passive Voice: Rules, Examples & Exercises

Active Voice और Passive Voice क्या है?

English sentence में यह देखा जाता है कि काम कौन कर रहा है और काम किस पर हो रहा है।

Active Voice

जब sentence में Subject स्वयं action करता है, तो उसे Active Voice कहते हैं।

Example: Ram writes a letter.

यहाँ Ram काम कर रहा है, इसलिए sentence Active Voice में है।

Structure:

Subject + Verb + Object

Ram + writes + a letter.

Passive Voice

जब sentence में Object पर action होने पर emphasis होता है, तो उसे Passive Voice कहते हैं।

Example: A letter is written by Ram.

यहाँ focus letter पर है।

Structure: Object + Helping Verb + V3 + by + Subject

Active और Passive Voice में मुख्य अंतर

Active VoicePassive Voice
Subject पर emphasisObject/action पर emphasis
Subject पहले आता हैObject पहले आता है
Main verb tense के अनुसार बदलता हैV3 का प्रयोग होता है
Object बाद में आता हैSubject अक्सर by के बाद आता है

Active से Passive Voice बनाने के Basic Rules

Active Voice को Passive Voice में बदलते समय इन steps को follow करें:

Rule 1: Object को पहचानें

Active sentence में object को पहचानें।

Ram writes a letter.

  • Subject = Ram
  • Verb = writes
  • Object = a letter

Object a letter passive sentence का subject बन जाएगा।

Rule 2: Object को शुरुआत में रखें

A letter …

Rule 3: Tense पहचानें

यहाँ writes Simple Present Tense है।

Simple Present में passive structure होता है:

is/am/are + V3

इसलिए:

A letter is written…

Rule 4: Main Verb को V3 में बदलें

write → written

Rule 5: Subject को by के बाद रखें

Ram → by Ram

Final sentence:

A letter is written by Ram.

Subject और Object का परिवर्तन

Passive Voice बनाते समय pronoun भी बदल सकते हैं।

Active SubjectPassive में

Tenses जिनका Passive सामान्यतः नहीं बनाया जाता

Class 10 में एक important exam point है कि हर tense का passive सामान्य रूप से प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता।

विशेष रूप से:

  • Present Perfect Continuous
  • Past Perfect Continuous
  • Future Continuous
  • Future Perfect Continuous

इनके passive forms सामान्य English usage में बहुत uncommon होते हैं और school-level grammar में सामान्यतः avoid किए जाते हैं।

Active and Passive Voice Formula Chart

Present Perfecthas/have + been + V3
Simple Pastwas/were + V3
Past Continuouswas/were + being + V3

Exam Trick: Passive Voice में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात है कि main verb हमेशा V3 (Past Participle) में होना चाहिए।

Negative Sentences का Passive Voice

Negative sentence में not को appropriate helping verb के बाद रखा जाता है।

Simple Present

Active: Ram does not write a letter.

Passive: A letter is not written by Ram.

Simple Past

ध्यान रखें कि Active में did + V1 होता है, लेकिन Passive में was/were + V3 आएगा।

Interrogative Sentences का Passive Voice

Question sentence को Passive में बदलते समय helping verb को sentence की शुरुआत में रखा जाता है।

Example 1

Active: Does Ram write a letter?

Passive: Is a letter written by Ram?

Example 2

Active: Did Ram write a letter?

Passive: Was a letter written by Ram?

Example 3

Modal Verbs का Passive Voice

Modal verbs जैसे:

  • can

के साथ passive बनाने का formula:

कुछ verbs के साथ preposition भी होता है। Passive बनाते समय preposition को हटाना नहीं चाहिए।

Example

Active: They laughed at him.

Passive: He was laughed at by them.

Example

Active: Someone has looked after the child.

जब Subject Unknown हो

अगर Active sentence में subject someone, people, they, somebody आदि है और passive में उसे बताना जरूरी नहीं है, तो उसे छोड़ा जा सकता है।

Passive: My bag was stolen.

यह sentence अधिक natural है।

इसी तरह:

Active: People speak English all over the world.

Passive: English is spoken all over the world.

यहाँ by people की आवश्यकता नहीं है।

Passive Voice में “by” कब हटाया जा सकता है?
